If you're looking for a quick read, this isn't it. And certainly a substitute for career, as the last generation of housewives found, to their dismay; so they took to the burners, the whisks, the ramekins, the all-but-unpronounceable French casserole dishes to vent their competitive fervor and produced dinner parties of orgiastic splendor, consummately detailed here.
